The Core of Connection
. Activities to connect you to your dance .

Saturday . May 22, 2010
4.0 Hour . 1:00 - 5:00pm
. Limited enrollment .

Second Cup Swing is hosting another special quarterly Essential Swing Dance Workshop for any dancer who wants to better feel and understand the source of their dance. This afternoon 4.0 hour lead/follow workshop will focus on Connection from the Core.
Connection is the visceral link thru which the lead and follow feel and respond together to the music. The more mature we are in the dance, the more connected we are as we dance, the more clarity there is between the partners and the more the dance becomes a fluid dialogue... the lead can be inspired and fueled by the follow’s participation in the dance, and the follow can be freed and empowered to respond and play.

On Saturday May 22, 2010 we had our first quarterly Essential Swing Dance Workshop that focused on The Core of Connection. I hope my impression was correct... that it was really well received — Natalie, Misty and I had a great time doing it!
Our hope was that the class would not only had a good time, but that the day opened some doors in their everyday dancing.
Below is some feedback from the day and please look here in a few weeks for information on our next workshop scheduled the afternoon before the Taft Dance in August '10.
Thanks so much to everyone who came... we had a great time!

Feedback:
"The class was worth the money. Thanks for teaching me to improvise a bit."
-Josh

"I loved this workshop! I thought that it was taught really well because it wasn't too hard to follow for me as a beginner but it still enriching for people who had been dancing for longer. I really liked learning about "contributing" to dances and the emphasis on counter-balancing and extensions. It would have been nice to have a little more example/instruction for the follows when we did the part about follows adding on to what the leads were already doing since I didn't really know what I should be doing. Thanks!"
-Larissa
That was a good point about having more examples at that particular time. We hope to do better on that next time. -h

"Thanks for the productive workshop yesterday! For me it was a valuable building experience...and you seem to have a knack for making these events quite fun too! I particularly appreciated the emphasis on musicality--working with the music, tempo changes, pauses, etc."
-Chris

"I can not thank you enough for the wonderful class on connections! You took
dancing from a 'cookbook, paint-by-the-numbers' activity to what I knew it
could and should be- a true art form! the whole day was an awesome
experience for me. I am so excited to join your classes and continue to grow
as a dancer. You all are incredible! "
